Résumé

Alors que la Première Guerre mondiale fait rage en Europe et qu'une épidémie de grippe sévit en Amérique, Jacob et Sarah Witting vivent heureux avec leurs enfants, loin des bombes et des microbes. Un jour, un vieil homme, très fatigué, trouve refuge dans leur grange. Son mari étant absent, Sarah l'accueille pour la nuit.
